What to play ?”: Steam officially launched a machine learning game recommendation system
In mid-February, Valve began testing a new feature, “What to play?” , which generates recommendations using machine learning. The system is designed to help users with extensive libraries to decide what to play. According to representatives of the service, the novelty received positive feedback from users, therefore it earned the right to be released from the Steam laboratory – today’s update introduced this feature into the library on an ongoing basis.
Thus, users who have purchased and non-launched games (or those that they have given little time to) will see the section “What to play?” In their library (you can find it at the following link ).
The selection will contain three games with tags, a link to the game’s page and a microtrailer that automatically plays when you hover over. The system will also indicate the reason why these games were in the collection, for example, “It looks like you played” or “We did not find a specific match with the games that you launched, but users with a similar game history also liked this game . ”
If the selection does not fit, you can request the next option by clicking the “Next” button at the bottom of the page.
Recall that, according to rumors, Steam will also soon launch a loyalty program with discounts and gifts for active users, and the traditional Summer Sale sale this year will be held from June 25 to July 9.
