SK Telecom developed a disinfection robot that can check body temperature and urge people to wear masks
According to foreign media ZDNet news, in order to prevent the spread of the new crown virus, SK Telecom has developed a new type of automatic robot to disinfect, it can also check people’s body temperature.
The robot was jointly developed by SK Telecom and Korean industrial automation solution provider Omron, and it will use ultraviolet lamps to disinfect the designated area of the Seoul Telecom headquarters. It will also monitor the body temperature of surrounding people and check whether they are wearing masks. If there are too many people around, the robot will ask to wear a mask without a mask, which will use facial recognition technology developed by the telecommunications company itself.

SK Telecom said that the robot will send temperature data to a central server via a 5G network. It hopes that these robots can reduce the workload of personnel performing detection tasks during the pandemic of the new coronavirus. So far, these robots have only been deployed at the headquarters of SK Telecom. The company also said it will sell the robot in South Korea in the second half of this year and plans to start exporting it abroad next year.
In view of the impact of the epidemic, SK Telecom’s robot is not the first surveillance robot. Its competitor KT has launched an automated shopping cart with 5G connectivity in its smartphone warehouse. KT said that the trolley will reduce the contact between people and the workload of the staff.
