Shadow Rock is an advanced air cooler series of being quiet! Series high-performance CPU coolers. This series has been in operation for many years, and various iterative versions of Shadow Rock have been introduced, including top-flow and low-profile versions as well as traditional single tower air coolers. The new Shadow Rock 3 is the quietest single tower air cooler! Improvements compared to the previous Shadow Rock 2.
The goal of the Shadow Rock tower cooler has always been to provide high performance and low noise CPU cooling at a reasonable price. Quiet! Stick to this strategy in the new Shadow Rock 3. However, compared to some previous versions, Shadow Rock 3 has been completely redesigned, although some core features are still similar.
Quiet! The Shadow Rock 3 is equipped with five 6mm nickel-plated copper heat pipes to match the aesthetic design of the aluminum heat sink. The aluminum heat sink has an asymmetric layout design to improve compatibility and avoid disturbing memory DIMM slots. The heat pipe is in direct contact with the CPU heat sink to improve heat absorption and dissipation. There is also a small aluminum heat sink directly on top of the heat pipe.
Another significant difference from the previous version of Shadow Rock 3 is the heat sink stack. It is less dense than before and the gap between the fins is larger than before. There are a total of 30 aluminum heat sinks on the Shadow Rock 3, which is 21 fewer heat sinks compared to the Shadow Rock 2 heat sink stack, but keep quiet! Make up for this reduced surface area by adding an extra heat pipe. For Shadow Rock 3 adds up to five, while Shadow Rock 2 only has four.
Keep quiet when Shadow Rock 3 is bundled! Decoupled Shadow Wings 2 120mm fan. Quiet! Claiming that the decoupled Shadow Wings 2 120mm fan produces only 24.4 dBA noise levels even at its maximum speed of 1600 RPM, which sounds impressive due to its high fin pitch and low air resistance. The combination of a high-speed fan and a radiator fin stack (five heat pipes) means that the Shadow Rock 3 has a cost-effective 190W TDP power rating.
Shadow Rock 3’s CPU socket support includes all current mainstream desktop platforms. Quiet! Claims that the installation process is fast and easy, and the cooler comes with mounting hardware for the Intel socket LGA 1200/2066/1150/1151/1155/2011 (-3) Square ILM and AMD AM4 / AM3 (+).
In terms of size, Shadow Rock 3 is somewhere between a high-end twin-tower air cooler and an economical single-tower cooler (such as the Arctic Freezer 34). It is almost palm-shaped in the middle and measures 121 x 130. x 163mm (L x W x H), so it should fit easily into almost all standard ATX mid-tower desktop computer cases. The total weight of the heat sink is only 710g, so compared with a larger heat sink, it may cause less pressure on the CPU socket area of the motherboard.
