Saudi Arabia announces 15-day truce against Yemen to prevent the spread of new coronavirus

Saudi Arabia announced a 15-day truce against Yemen. Facing the world ’s most serious humanitarian crisis, Yemen, the poorest country in the Arabian Peninsula, has not yet found any cases of new coronavirus.

This troop sent to Yemen, and the military alliance led by Saudi Arabia supported the Yemeni government army. It announced a ceasefire for two weeks from 11 am on April 9, Paris time to prevent the explosive spread of coronavirus.

Facing the world ’s worst humanitarian crisis, Yemen is the poorest country on the Arabian Peninsula. To date, there have been no official cases of new coronavirus diseases. But humanitarian organizations worry that if the country is affected by the new coronavirus, it will be a disaster. Yemen has been hit by epidemics such as dengue fever or cholera due to the poor and fragile health system and lack of drinking water in Yemen.

Although the United Nations called on both parties to reach a ceasefire in March, the country, which has suffered from armed conflict, has recently escalated violently. A Saudi leader issued a statement on the 8th, saying: “We announced a ceasefire from the 9th for two weeks. We expect the rebel group Hutists to accept it. We are preparing for the fight against the new coronavirus epidemic.

The Huttist rebel groups supported by Iran did not immediately respond to this proposal. Saudi officials said that the coalition is determined to respect the two weeks of the ceasefire, but it also reserves the right to defend itself in the event of another attack. He added that if the Hutt activists responded to the coalition with a “positive” response, the ceasefire could be extended.

UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres welcomed the announcement of the military alliance.

The United Nations Special Envoy for Yemen, Martin Griffiths, also assisted. He called on both parties to negotiate in good faith without any preconditions.

According to non-governmental organizations, this war in Yemen has killed tens of thousands of people, most of them civilians. According to the United Nations, about 24 million Yemenis, or two-thirds of the country ’s population, need humanitarian assistance.
