iPhone12 and MacBook Pro uses 5nm processor

The process of upgrading processor manufacturing from 7nm to 5nm may not sound like much progress, but it is not. The 5 nanometer process means that the A14 chip may have 12.5 billion transistors , even more than desktop and server CPUs. In addition, Apple can also reduce the chip area to about 85 square millimeters, which will greatly improve its performance, especially in terms of multi-core performance.
Some analysts said that the multi-core running score of the A14 processor may be around 4,500 points, or even more than 5,000 points. At present, the fastest multi-core score of an Android phone is about 3000 points. 5000 points is equivalent to the score of a 6-core mainstream desktop CPU or a high-end notebook CPU. In other words, the performance of the iPhone 12 is almost comparable to that of a 15-inch MacBook Pro laptop.
In addition, with more transistors in the GPU and the rumored 6GB of RAM, the iPhone 12’s gaming performance is expected to increase by about 50%. In addition, the A14 processor may also have greater progress in neural engines. At that time, don’t be surprised if Apple claims that the A14 processor machine learning task is at least twice as fast as the A13.
Earlier reports said that because TSMC is more mature in the 5nm manufacturing process, it has already won orders for all Apple A14 processors.
