Intel and AMD Cooperation With Kaby Lake-G Processor And Stop Production In 2020
It should be remembered by many computer gamers or consumers that before the AI issue became popular, the graphics fabs such as Nvidia swept the artificial intelligence processor market in a powerful way, even threatening the general server and PC processing.
In the market, the two rivals in the computer processor industry, Intel and AMD, are working together to further develop the Kaby Lake-G processor with Intel’s Kaby Lake CPU architecture and AMD’s Radeon RX Vega GPU architecture. After more than two years, the two companies announced that the first cooperative product will die in 2020 and will no longer be produced.

According to foreign media reports, at the end of 2017, under the strong pressure of Intel and AMD from Nvidia, the two processors that have competed for half a century have been working together to deliver an Intel Kaby Lake CPU architecture and AMD Radeon RX Vega.
The GPU architecture processor, the result of this collaboration is the Kaby Lake-G series of processors that will be introduced later. According to the test, this processor with Intel’s Kaby Lake processor and AMD’s Vega graphics core has an outstanding performance.
However, in the end, it was the result of the suspension of production, and market participants believe that the main reason is that the current NVIDIA is not as good as the current year, and AMD is now stepping on Intel.
The report further pointed out that the Kaby Lake-G series processors have a total of five models, four of which belong to the Core i7 series, and one of which belongs to the Core i5 series, all with the Radeon RX Vega graphics core with HBM2, respectively 24 and 20 CU units connected to the CPU via the PCIe 3.0 x8 interface.
The Core i7-8809G with the highest specification and the TDP of the next-class Core i7-8709G are both 100W. It is understood that for these models of processors, the last time the manufacturer can place an order on January 31, 2020, and the final delivery date is June 30, 2020.
However, in fact, after the launch of the Kaby Lake-G series processor, it is mainly installed on Intel’s own NUC. Although, some manufacturers have directly introduced some notebook computers with this series of processors. However, the mainstream of the notebook market is still using the Whiskey Lake-U/Coffee Lake-H with NVIDIA’s GPU, and the Kaby Lake-G series processors are still a minority.
The report also said that according to Intel’s statement, Intel is re-aligning its product line, and the 10th generation Core processor is equipped with an Iris Plus core display based on the 11th generation graphics architecture, which almost doubles in graphics performance. Therefore, Intel has more room for development on the graphics card architecture, which will bring more enhancements to PCs in the future.
This shows that Intel will rely on its own graphics architecture to develop future products, and Intel will use the Xe graphics architecture as the 12th generation core display with the Tiger Lake processor, making the discontinuation of Kaby Lake-G a normal product. The life cycle is over, and in the future, there may be no opportunities for cooperation between the two companies.
