These careers now take on the role of a background that replaces a defined class. Three classes were originally planned in this way; namely the Solo, Netrunner and Techie. The latter technician will still be playable in elements in Cyberpunk 2077 , but his skills have been integrated into the flowing class system as separate skills and perks like a loyal robot companion. The techie was originally able to use a robotic companion named Flathead, who would have had to be animated with great effort. After all, the little robot could theoretically have been running all the time in order to be able to provide assistance. In addition, the Techie could hardly have been differentiated from the Netrunner. The Netrunner should also be able to hack technical equipment from a distance. But why would you need a small robot that can do this? In addition, there could have been confusion as to which technical systems only a Netrunner and which only a techie could have hacked. Finally, the game with Jackie and later Johnny Silverhand has enough companions. Another small robot companion therefore appeared to the developers to be superfluous.
But the developers couldn’t really let go of the techie. Rather, this style of play has been incorporated into the new technical skill, which hides other perks. These perks are then intended to help the player with skill checks in various actions such as dialogues, barricaded doors or with handicrafts. These skills should also have an impact on the course of the story.
