Due to the endless travels, Volodya and his older sister Natasha were raised by her grandmother for several years. And only when the parents after the war settled in Izmail, a small town in the Odessa region, they were able to take their children to themselves. Many years later, Vladimir Korenev recalled what a magical city it was and how in the hungry post-war years he was admired by the generous fruits of those places: sweet mulberry, walnuts, large grapes, amazing sweet cherries, huge watermelons. But the study in Izmail was bad: the Russian language in these places was taught in parallel with the Ukrainian, and as a result, Volodya did not learn any language at the elementary school. I had to catch up later, when the family moved again – this time to Tallinn. Korenev told in one of his interviews that there he felt a real inferiority complex when he saw how other children are learning. “I did not understand them, for me they were academics,” said the actor. However, he quickly caught up with peers. It was during these years that the future actor was really carried away by reading. Moreover, in the house where the Korenevs lived, there was a library, from where he scooped and scooped up books, until he re-read all available Russian and foreign classics.
When he visited his grandmother for the holidays, she fully supported this hobby. Korenev recalled that he read until dawn, and grandmother sat next to him in an armchair, pecking her nose, but persistently did not go to bed. From Drama Club to GITIS

Korenev’s father wanted his son to follow in his footsteps and become a naval officer, but the young man dreamed of a scene and went to Moscow. There, at the first attempt, he entered GITIS, the studio of the famous theater actress Olga Androvskaya. She immediately appreciated his theatrical talent, education, excellent external data and some non-realism: he somehow moved differently than everything in a special way. It attracted and bewitched, opened up space for a variety of roles – from the eccentric “not of this world” to the enthusiastic hero-lover.
Already in his first year, Vladimir met his future wife Alla Konstantinova. It happened in November. At that time, Alla was in her third year, but she was late for the start of her studies, since she was on the set in Odessa. And when she returned, classmates immediately told her that a freshman of extraordinary beauty had appeared in GITIS. However, at the first meeting, Vladimir did not make much impression on her.
