Call of Duty: Modern Warfare – why is the game so big?

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare including Warzone is the fattest PC game so far – it weighs almost 200 gigabytes. You can find out here why the popular top game eats so much storage space.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare – why is the game so big?
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare has not always been that stout. According to the developer Infinity Ward, 175 gigabytes of memory was sufficient for the original version on the day of the release. That was a lot even then. But Infinity Ward went with patches and “very large” mutated to “gigantic”. The Season 3 patch alone came with 16 gigabytes. The recently released 1.20 patch was even bigger with about 32 gigabytes. Of course, these are only the sizes of the downloads. During the installation, certain data are deleted, others are exchanged – the game does not necessarily grow. We have 182 gigabytes occupied. That can vary – even upwards!

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is the biggest game
Attention to all PC players who have already played the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare beta. Unfortunately, the beta does not uninstall itself. If you do not delete the preliminary version, you will lose about 30 gigabytes of memory. Together with the main game, it would be over 210 gigabytes. – Image: featured

How much memory does Call of Duty: Warzone use?
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare now consists of the main game and the Battle Royale mod Warzone. If you want, you can download Warzone free of charge for the PC and the console from Activision. Warzone alone weighs a lot: About 80 to 100 gigabytes are due. If you own the main game and have already installed it, it is “only” 20 gigabytes extra.

Why is the game so huge?
Now we know that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is huge, but why? This question has gone the GameStar on the ground and has checked with the developer. Realistic weapons, different characters, and many maps take up a lot of space, but the “maps” and modes, which are sometimes huge, are particularly “serious”.

“We’re trying to share game content, that is, using models and maps in multiple modes, but it’s just a huge game. We have tailor-made maps for Gunfight mode and for multiplayer mode and for Ground War and of course we have the large Verdansk map. A lot comes together, like the co-op and single player maps. ” developers Goeffrey Smith and Joe Cecot told GameStar.

Admittedly, the game takes up a lot of space, but also offers a huge playground. A fair deal.
